How to Buy from Weidian: The Chinese Platform With No Search

Weidian (微店) is China's "shop in a link" platform. Anyone can open a store in minutes, and most sellers run it from their phone with no web storefront at all. You cannot browse it the way you browse Taobao — there is no meaningful public search and almost nothing is indexed by Google.

That makes it the platform with the lowest visibility and, for certain categories, the lowest prices.

What Weidian is actually used for

Weidian grew out of social commerce — sellers distribute links through WeChat, Weibo and group chats. In practice it is used for:

• Direct-from-factory apparel — unbranded or small-brand clothing sold at or near wholesale
• Made-to-order furniture and home goods, where the seller is closer to the workshop
• Sneakers and streetwear (including a large counterfeit segment — see the warning below)
• Small food and regional specialities — hometown snacks, tea, sauces
• Digital goods — accounts, codes, templates

For a buyer outside China the practical value is apparel and home goods: the seller is often the manufacturer, and prices reflect that.

The counterfeit problem — read this first

Weidian is where a substantial part of the replica trade happens. Two consequences:

1. Importing counterfeits is illegal in the destination country, not just against platform rules. Customs will seize the parcel, and in some jurisdictions the recipient can face penalties.
2. We will not buy them. Our prohibited items policy applies to every platform, including this one. If you point us at a listing that turns out to be counterfeit, we will stop the order.

If you are sourcing unbranded goods — plain apparel, home textiles, storage, tools — Weidian is genuinely useful. If you are looking for a specific brand at a suspicious price, look elsewhere.

How ordering works when there is no search

Because discovery happens outside the platform, the workflow is link-based:

1. Get the link. weidian.com/item.html?itemID=... or a short k.koudai.com link from a seller's WeChat post or a creator's group.

2. Verify the seller before ordering. Weidian sellers have ratings and a transaction count visible on the item page. With lower platform oversight than Taobao, a seller with almost no transaction history on a high-value item is a real risk.

3. Submit the link to your agent. Paste it into the homepage box. We open it, read the variants (colour, size, specification), and show them to you as options.

4. Confirm before purchase. Some Weidian listings are pre-orders or made-to-order with long lead times. We confirm the seller's shipping promise before buying so you are not surprised by a three-week wait before the item even reaches the warehouse.

5. Inspect carefully. Made-to-order and small-factory goods vary more between units than the photos suggest. Three free photos per item are included; buy extra close-ups if the item is expensive or the specification is specific.

Practical tips

• Ask for a photo of the actual item if the listing uses stock images. On Weidian this is more often the case than on Taobao.
• Assume sizes run small. Measure, do not guess. See the size-chart advice in our Taobao guide.
• Watch the lead time. Made-to-order goods can add a week or more before they reach our warehouse, and storage time in the warehouse is separate from that.
• Consolidate across platforms. Weidian, Taobao and 1688 items can all be combined into one international parcel. That is where the money is saved.
